SHIP™ training
Frequently asked questions
How the training works, who teaches it, how you earn the certificate of training, and what physicians can claim. Anything specific to one route lives on that route’s own page.
ProgramWhat is SHIP™?
SHIP™ (Sleep Health Intelligence Program) is a pediatric sleep certificate of training created and taught by a physician. It was built by Dr. Anya McLaren-Barnett, a pediatric respirologist and sleep medicine physician, to close the gap between what clinicians are asked about sleep and what their training covered.
The evidence base is the same across every route. The clinical context is not, so the training is built around the decisions your profession actually makes.
RoutesWhich training route is right for me?
Start with the SHIP™ training overview, which compares the routes side by side. Each route then has its own page with current dates and entry requirements.
- SHIP™ for child sleep professionals: for experienced child sleep consultants and allied practitioners.
- SHIP™ for pediatricians: for pediatricians, subspecialists, residents and fellows.
- SHIP™ for occupational therapists: for pediatric OTs and allied health professionals, with sleep set in the context of sensory differences, autism and ADHD.
PracticeHow will this change my practice or my business?
A certificate does not bring in clients or reorganise a clinic on its own, and we will not pretend otherwise. What the training gives you is a consistent way to work through a sleep presentation: what to ask, what to rule out, when a referral is warranted, and where your scope ends.
For consultants in private practice, that tends to show up as clearer boundaries and better handoffs to medical colleagues. For physicians and occupational therapists, it tends to show up inside the appointment, as a structured approach to a complaint that training rarely covered.
Each route page sets out what it covers, so you can judge the fit before you enrol.
DeliveryHow is the training delivered?
Every route is delivered online, so you can take it from anywhere.
Beyond that, the format differs. Module count, schedule, and whether a cohort includes live sessions vary by route and by intake. The current format for each one is listed on its own program page.
FacultyWho teaches it?
SHIP™ was created and is led by Dr. Anya McLaren-Barnett, a dual-trained pediatric respirologist and sleep medicine physician practising in Ontario, Canada.
Guest faculty from medicine and allied health contribute to individual modules and sessions. Faculty for each route are listed on that route’s page.
AssessmentHow do I earn the certificate of training?
The requirement is the same whichever route you take: complete the program and pass the performance assessment.
AlumniWhat happens after I finish?
You receive the SHIP™ certificate of training and a digital badge you can display on your website and professional profiles.
You are also added to the SHIP™ alumni directory, the public list families and colleagues use to find a SHIP™ trained practitioner.
CMECan physicians claim CME for this?
The SHIP™ program is a self-study activity. It is not itself an accredited CME activity, so no sponsor issues credits to you directly. Physicians self-report the hours to their own college.
The pediatrician route page sets out the hours of content and the self-report categories, including AMA PRA Category 2 for physicians in the United States, Royal College Section 3 Self-Learning, and CFPC Part 2 Self-Learning for Canadian family physicians.
If you practise elsewhere, check what your own regulator accepts for self-study before you enrol, since the categories differ by country. We provide a certificate of completion and a learning objectives document wherever you practise, which is what most regulators ask to see.
Accredited CME is separate. We run accredited events, such as the ADHD and sleep series approved under Section 1 of the Royal College MOC program, where credit went to clinicians who attended live. Current and past events are on the CME and events page.
EligibilityAm I eligible?
Entry requirements differ by route, because the starting point does. Each program page lists what that route asks for, and the application will tell you if anything is missing.
Check the requirements on the child sleep professionals page, the pediatricians page, or the occupational therapists page.
CostWhat does it cost?
Pricing differs by route and by cohort, so it is listed on each program page rather than here: child sleep professionals, pediatricians, occupational therapists.
Once you have a place, you can pay in full or in monthly instalments.
WithdrawalWhat if I need to withdraw?
Withdrawal and refund terms are set out in our terms and conditions.
If your circumstances change partway through a cohort, contact us before you withdraw so we can go through the options with you.
