About The Program

Sleep problems are among the most common and most under-addressed challenges in children with ADHD. This two-part lunch series brings together clinical experts and the family perspective to give you practical, evidence-informed strategies you can apply in practice, from diagnostic clarity to melatonin, supplements, and supporting families.

The program is built on a needs assessment drawing on parent experience, Canadian pediatrician input, and expert committee guidance, ensuring the content reflects real gaps in everyday clinical practice.

What You'll Learn

  • Sleep and ADHD: understanding the bidirectional relationship
  • When to refer: appropriate use of polysomnography
  • Sleep maintenance: what to do when kids can’t stay asleep
  • Melatonin beyond the basics: formulations, safety, and the ADHD medication question
  • Expanding the toolkit: magnesium, iron, and other options
  • Closing the loop with families: what parents need from you.

Up to 70% of children with ADHD also experience a co-existing sleep problem

Pediatric sleep isn’t covered in depth in most training programs. Because of this, sleep disorders that overlap with ADHD symptoms may go unrecognized, and some children experience changes in sleep when stimulant medications are introduced or adjusted. Pediatricians are also managing a range of practical challenges: limited appointment time to screen thoroughly, long waitlists for sleep assessments, and families seeking clarity about melatonin, magnesium, iron, and restless sleep. Layered onto this are comorbid psychiatric diagnoses, the effects of their medications, and the difficulty of sorting out which symptoms are driven by ADHD, sleep, mood, or anxiety. Parents arrive with complex questions, and clinicians are often left without a clear, standardized approach.

This CME was designed with both clinicians and families in mind. The topics are carefully curated with direct input from parents about the issues that matter most to them, the questions they struggle with, the gaps they encounter in the system, and the guidance they wish existed.
